Birthday Party

A week before the baby shower, Keira called and reached out to me. She seemed to be different from the last time I spoke to her. She even cried and told me how much she missed our friendship. I actually believed her.

“I have so much to tell you Nyda,” Keira confessed. “We have to hang out soon.”

“Of course,” I replied feeling sorry for her. “I have a busy work schedule and I’ve been swamped with DeAndre’s promotional stuff for basketball. If I don’t see you soon, I’ll definitely see you at the party.”

“Okay Nyda,” Keira spoke sadly. “Call me sometimes so we can catch up.”

I promised her I would when in fact didn’t know what to say without incriminating myself. I put that shit on the backburner and went on with my day.

That damn week flew by and it was time to get ready for my birthday party. My husband had left to pick up some last minute stuff for Keira’s baby shower the following day, so I had to wait on him.

While I was tripping over the balloons and decorations, I heard my cell beeping.

“Where the hell is my phone?” I wondered aloud and searched until I found it.

It was Tamario’s ass. He wasn’t letting up with the text messages. I ignored them as much as I could, but when he asked me to meet him before the party I couldn’t refuse. He sounded so desperate that I had to see what could be so important.

Being that it was already six in the evening, we only had three hours before it started. I was curious so I went ahead and told him to meet me at the park in his community at eight. That would give him plenty of time to tell me whatever it was that was bothering him.

I figured that since I got the call from Keira, that it had something to do with their marriage. The last thing I wanted to do was get in the middle of that shit, but he was my good friend so the least I could do was listen.

My husband came through the door right as I was about to leave.

“Where are you going so early?” he questioned. “We aint ridin’ together?”

“Is it okay if I meet you there baby?” I requested with a kiss. “I have to make a stop before the party.”

“I can take you wherever you need to go,” he offered heaving me into his strong arms and lifting me off my feet. “You already know that.”

“I do,” I replied with a smile. “Something is going on between Tamario and Keira so I’m gonna stop by their place before the party. I wanna make sure everything is okay.”

“Cool, but don’t be late,” DeAndre winked. “You know I have a surprise for you.”

I shook my head and gave him a swift peck. He was always giving me something.

Not entertaining it with a second thought, I was out the door and on my way to meet Tamario. I needed to make the meeting as quick as possible.
